Auto Parts from a Junkyard?

Junkyards really have a bad rap! Just to hear someone suggest you purchase a part for your car from a junkyard sounds trashy and low rent. This simply is not the case. While the name junkyard carries a negative connotation, the fact is you can buy quality automotive electrical parts at these places. Most items you will find have been salvaged from vehicles that have been totaled. They have been conditioned, inspected, and tested for safety. Oh and did I mention that you can get a much lower price at a junkyard than you will at a retail auto shop!

You can find engines, alternators, stereo systems, wheels, tires, you name it!! It is basically like shopping at a specialized garage sale. With that said, you should look up the junkyard you would like to go to and find out their reputation. There are some unscrupulous junkyards that will sell unreliable goods. If you can get info via word of mouth or through hometown auto experts, you can find a junkyard that will sell items that are useful.

Must Have Car Accessories

Accessories in an automobile are those things that never seem to come with the vehicle when bought off of the lot. As well equipped as some cars are touted to be, there are always some little things that are not included and must be purchased separately. The following list are some car accessories that every car should have:

  1. Floor Mats- Many newly purchased cars come with only a throwaway piece of paper in the drivers seat! To prevent soiling your carpet, you have to have floor mats. It makes the interior of your car look crummy and the cost of replacing car carpet is very expensive.
  2. Cargo Liners- These are like floor mats for your trunk. They will prevent dirt and debris from ruining the lining of your trunk. Sometimes these are included as standard equipment while other times they are an add-on accessory for an extra cost.
  3. Bug Shields- These are always an add on accessory, not to mention essential if you live in a warm climate. These will protect your hood and windshield.
  4. Car Cover- Whether your car is housed indoors or outdoors, these will protect it from the elements. These include: bird droppings, wind, solar rays, moisture, and minor impacts that may hurt an uncovered car.

Car Wax vs. Car Polish

With hundreds of different car care products on the market today, it is hard to decide what you do and do not need. Car wax and car polish are a couple of the most important items to keep the outside of your car looking swift. However, these have very different functions:

Car wax will remove a dull appearance from the exterior. This will make your car look like it is brand new. Many experts suggest that waxing your car two times a year will restore a fresh new appearance particularly if your car is older. The prevention of dirt and grime build up will keep your vehicle looking as though you just bought it new!

Car polish is different from car wax. The chemicals are not the same although both are key in the upkeep of the exterior appearance. Polish has some slightly abrasive properties so it will give your finish a deep clean. A quality car polish has the ability to diminish paint defects. A cheap product may leave a residue which will cause your paint to become dull.
